#SupportOurSMEs this SME Week
You can’t tell with almost every mall in Singapore filled with international brands, but Singaporean small and medium businesses (SMEs) employ 70% of the local workforce. From the humble neighbourhood mama shop to franchises like Lao Beijing, over 9 in 10 local businesses are SMEs. Homegrown entrepreneurs who sacrifice the prospect of a stable, cushy office job are truly the unsung heroes of our economy, contributing almost half of our GDP.
Which is why DBS and Singtel are spearheading a movement to appreciate local SMEs with the 99% SME campaign, that culminates with the SME Week. From 14 to 23 Oct 2016, participating SMEs are offering special limited-time deals, because it’s about time for us to #SupportOurSMEs.
This year’s SME Week features over 900 special deals across a wide range of businesses, ranging from F&B to fashion retailers, and even spas and pet shops. We sussed out the best deals for you to save, and honour our own Singaporean-born businesses as well.
1. Play Nation
Eastsiders rejoice! Our favourite party games store is opening a new store in Our Tampines Hub, so our Pasir Ris-ians no longer have to head to town to release their pent-up stress over a session of therapy, more commonly known as Guitar Hero.
To celebrate the opening of their first non-Central outlet, Play Nation is offering a Buy 3 Get 1 free gaming packages deal, which means every 4th friend gets to game for free. Or, you can also be a lone wolf and get that 4th hour for free! Because rocking out to your own tune is the best way to rock out.
This deal also available at Play Nation’s Prinsep and Scape outlets for SME Week! For more details, click .

You might know Refash as that fashion store that's like an eternal flea market, taking in and selling pre-loved clothes. They’re like the Backstreet Boys, in that they don’t care where your (clothes) are from, but you might not know that they also carry new clothes from brands like Dorothy Perkins and Love Bonito.
Induce some credit card panic by heading on down to Refash’s website, and score yourself a sweet $5 off with the promo code “Happy5off” from 14 Oct to 31 Oct. You need a minimum spend of $10 for the discount to kick in, but we reckon you’ll have trouble keeping your bill below $100 anyway. For more details, click .
There’s just something about Saveur’s food that keeps me coming back. Be it their delightfully sinful Duck Confit, or the so-skinny-it’s-hard-to-eat-with-a-fork Saveur’s Pasta, French food at wallet-friendly prices always gets an involuntary "OUI" from me. Maybe that’s why the waiter always looks at me weird when I enter.
From 14 Oct to 31 Oct, get 15% off all a la carte items. A minimum spend of $70 is applicable, but that just means you have space in your budget for a bonus Pistachio Panna Cotta. You can , and sit in the comforts of home while you wait for a great dinner. For more details, .

4. Dragon Boat Innovate
Typical office bonding activities typically involve staid ice-breaking games like that classic "pass-the-rubber-ball-around". Well, not at Dragon Boat Innovate. Here, companies send their employees on a day of team building games, all involving the ubiquitous dragon boat.
Book at session at DBI between 14 Oct and 31 Oct to get a 50% discount off a corporate dragon boat introductory session. This session includes trainers, paddle and life vest rentals, drinks, and even customized medals to bring home. For more details, .
Be vocal about local
This year’s 99% SME campaign offered a suite of resource packages that focus on helping SMEs go digital and cashless. A plethora of free courses and events have also been organized for SME owners and their employees to improve themselves, as part of the efforts to help our local businesses.
